🎲 Rest in Peace Mikey Ayers – My Crazy, Brilliant, Lifelong Friend
By Aaron G. Beebe – Owner of GonnaHappen
There are certain people in life who leave a mark so wild, so weird, and so unforgettable, that just thinking about them brings a crooked smile to your face. My friend Mikey Ayers was one of those people.
Mikey—my crazy Jewish brother from another mother—wasn't just a friend. He was family. I knew him my whole life, and I still can’t believe I’m writing this tribute. Dave Baxter broke the news to me that Mikey passed, and even then, I didn’t believe him. There was no obituary, no write-up, no post online—just silence. But I couldn’t let Mikey disappear like that. Not without a few words to remember him by.
🎰 A Wild Spirit at The Row
Mikey loved Reno like it was Vegas 2.0. He was a gambler through and through—The Row was his playground. Me and Dave Baxter would tag along on those infamous runs. He’d gamble, party, and somehow always walk out with cash still in his pocket—Jewish, rich, and hilariously frugal. Mikey wouldn’t spend on just anything, but when it came to his friends, he always had your back and a few bucks for a beer.
And speaking of beers—Mikey had this inside joke he loved doing. He’d leave empty beer cans on Dave Baxter’s front porch or super Dave the UPS driver climber master, then send the dumbest, funniest videos and messages like it was a prank from a sitcom. We’d laugh for hours.
🛻 Monster Motorhomes, Sand Mountain, and Buggy Days
Growing up, Mikey wasn’t afraid of dirt, dust, or chaos. We used to hit Sand Mountain with monster motorhomes and dune buggies, tearing through the desert like lunatics. He’d ride with his dad, shoot guns, jet skis on this lake and make memories that burned into our bones. It was family. It was reckless. It was youth.
He loved his family, especially his dad, who owned a landscaping company down in Southern California. Mikey followed in those footsteps, working hard, running his own landscaping business, and staying hands-on no matter what. He was a worker, a hustler, and never afraid to get dirty.
🎰 A Wild Spirit at The Row – Partying at the Gold Room
Mikey loved Reno like it was his second home—and The Row was his playground. But his all-time favorite spot? The Gold Room at the Eldorado. That’s where the real memories were made.
We weren’t just gambling—we were partying at the Gold Room. That place had a vibe, and Mikey brought the fire. Whether he was posted up at a blackjack table, cracking a joke, or quoting some obscure movie line, he lit the place up. He made that fancy casino floor feel like our personal after-hours club.
Me and Dave Baxter would roll in with him, ready for whatever wild night was about to unfold. Mikey had this energy that turned regular casino runs into full-on adventures. And even though he was the most frugal rich guy you'd ever meet, he always had enough to buy a round or spot a friend. That was Mikey—tight with a buck, but generous with his people.
And the pranks never stopped. One of his best: leaving empty beer cans at Dave’s front door or the UPS mast climber, then sending a ridiculous video or message like it was the punchline to an inside joke we’d been laughing at for years.
🧊 4x4s, Hookybobbin & Cold Beers at Uncle Tom’s Cabin
One of the most legendary Mikey adventures? Hookybobbin behind the Jeep, half-drunk, freezing, and laughing our asses off in the mountains near Uncle Tom’s Cabin. If you were there, you know. If you weren’t—well, buckle up.
Mikey loved winter almost as much as he loved chaos. We’d take the 4x4s out in the deep snow, crank the heat inside, then immediately undo it all by tying ropes to the back and dragging each other through the icy roads on sleds, shovels, or whatever piece of junk we could ride. That’s hookybobbin,
Mikey DOO - style. With a Loud - WOOOOOOOOO and GOOOOOOOOOOOD! We entered Uncle Towns!
We’d take breaks to crack open beers—chilled by nature itself—and blast music or shout out dumb movie lines like it was some backwoods comedy special. Mikey would be yelling from the Jeep window, one hand on the wheel, the other pointing at whoever just wiped out in a snowbank.
And always, we'd end up posted at Uncle Tom’s Cabin, muddy boots stomping in, soaking wet from the snow but not giving a damn. It was pure Sierra Nevada magic—friends, frostbite, and fun you couldn’t recreate even if you tried.
It was reckless, stupid, hilarious—and unforgettable. That’s how Mikey lived. Wide open throttle, even on ice.
🎥 Quotes, Knives, and the Mystery of Mikey
Mikey was a walking IMDB. The dude could quote movies like a human jukebox, and him and Dave could go back and forth for hours—line for line. Whether it was Wild At Heart, The Big Lebowski, Scarface, Lethal Weapon, Point Break, North Shore or something obscure, Mikey had it locked in.
And always—ALWAYS—he had this tiny little pocketknife on him. The thing was so small it was almost a joke, but Mikey kept it like a lucky charm. Just a part of who he was.
He had a darker side too. Me and Dave never really understood it, but we always knew it was there. He carried some things with him that he didn’t talk about. But we didn’t need to. Because through all the mess, all the madness, and all the laughter—he was our friend.
🎞️ Mikey’s Legacy: Laughter, Loyalty, and the Stories We Can’t Tell
There are so many wild stories I could share—ones I probably shouldn’t put in writing. Mikey Ayers lived like a firecracker, always on, always unexpected. He’d send the craziest texts, the weirdest videos, and sometimes vanish for a bit before popping up again like nothing happened. That was just Mikey.
I hope that someone out there—one of his old friends, a family member, a wild partier who remembers those Reno nights—reads this and laughs like I do. Because that’s the best way to honor Mikey. Laugh, remember, maybe crack open a cold one, and quote your favorite movie line out loud in his name.
Rest easy, Mikey Ayers. You were one of a kind. And I’m proud I got to call you my friend.
